Technology enabling creative innovation at G2G3

By Derek Watson, Creative Director, G2G3

Great excitement is abound in G2G3 with the recent arrivals of both Apple’s iPad and Adobe's latest incarnation of their industry standard software Creative Suites (CS5).

There are some real improvements in CS5, and we are discovering them when time permits, from simple time saving enhancements to some incredible new features, especially in PhotoShop. Hopefully all this will lead to more designing and less repetitive and not so exciting time consuming tasks!

We have implemented some of the InDesign automation features in our soon to be released incarnation of our PoleStar simulation. This is allowing us to both make changes and produce multiple language versions of our simulations in far less time and with much less effort than before allowing us to focus on innovation rather than mechanics. The 64 bit support for OSX makes quite a difference too.

We of course are sitting on the fence in the Apple/Adobe great Flash debate of 2010. As well as doing quite a bit of Flash development, we do have a number of iPhones at G2G3 as well as four iPads… so far! I must admit that there are not a huge number of sites I get the ‘unplayable Flash’ message on the iPhone these days. HTML5 looks to be very exciting and my even prove useful outside of the continuing development of both our own and client websites.

We are also hopeful Unity's talks with Apple will prove fruitful as this is a major part of our development, especially with the online virtual simulations we are developing. As well as distributing online, iOS development is an exciting area too.

All in all, very exciting and great fun!
